Dumbo

Deliberately obtuse in reaction to most people’s reluctance then anger at the very idea of discussing the scientific facts; the song -which I have attempted to record on several occassions- has lost it’s place in time. God forbid the matter should ever get past the official channels. I’ve brushed off the dust to place it here alongside my tin-foil cap and get an airing until then..

Dumbo

Words and music by Wayne James

The world is flat and that is that.

And there's nothing worse than an educated t**t!

I’m pushing hard ‘gainst

A stubborn mule

But I can't complain

Cos I got cheap fuel

And I know why elephants fly

Cos Newton’s laws just don't apply

Sitting in a cave

With a popular mechanic

Questions answered

Gist of the politics

No doubts ‘bout the facts

The Man presented

Opinion's right

And the anger's vented

Those kids have all grown

Folks were busy anyway

They fell into the plan

There wasn’t any other way

I can't smell the char

Can't see the scorch

Cos I clean my boots

On my neighbour's porch

And I know why them pachyderms glide

Cos Newton's law just don't abide..

So let's move on ‘cos

The birds have flown

And the dust done blown

And the trees regrown

And the steel reground

From pools unfound

And the traders and the punters

And the bounty hunters

Cos Newton’s laws just don't apply

And Santa Claus don’t let me lie

6000 years we done this world

Some say more but how'd they know?

The good Lord gave us

A God given right

To take what we need

When it's outa sight

Yeah, we got da tools

And we got da plight

We love to watch foxes at night

Galileo don't see the light

When Elephant’s fly

Gravity don’t bite

So let's move on cos

The birds have flown

And the dust done blown

And the trees regrown

And the sparks and sounds

And the papers found

And the cameras and the mutters

And the cheap box cutters

Cos Newton’s laws just don't apply

And you’ve no cause to ask me ‘why?’

Cos Newton’s law need not apply

That day we all saw elephants fly

Better, perhaps to die in doubt , knowing there was some revelation still unfound , than to pursue and possess such a wretched certainty.
